Hello My name is Pamela J. Arquette. This is Sue with me. She is a very loved and spoiled puppy. I have been weaving since the early days of my childhood. My first weaving projects were pot holders made on a metal frame with cotton loopers. I sold them to my mother's friends and gave them as Christmas presents. My mother still has some. I was in love with weaving. This "First Love" is what I eventually called my business "First Love Handweaving" "Art" is a state of being. "Art" is a testament to life. "Art" is a record of expression formed by the human mind, hand, and spirit. It is a need in people to be connected somehow to the world. We go through life very much alone and yet surrounded."Art" is a how we connect. It states that we were here, we made a difference, we are remembered. Textiles/fiber are a part of my soul. I love the feel of cloth, the smell of cloth. Cloth keeps me warm, protects me form the elements, comforts me. Textiles/fiber are in my blood. I learned many of my skills from my mother and grandmother. My mother taught me to sew and made my clothes. My grandmother taught me to knit, crochet, etc. I treasure textiles from my past the dress I wore when I met my husband, the fabric from my daughters prom dress, the quilt my grandmother made. My art is cloth. It is my record, my connection to the past, present, and future. It says I am (I was) here. My work is very "limited addition". In fact most are one of a kind. I achieve this, is with painted warps Shibori dye techniques and complex weave structures. I graduated with honors and a bachelor degree from the State University of New York at Cortland. I spent many years teaching. I married Orville(Joe)Arquette in 1970. We had five children, Jesse, Jeannie Joey, James and Jeffery. We now have eight grand children, Devante, Mauriana, Martina, Angel, Norman, Estaria, Joe and Nickolaus. |
